Sensory-Friendly Touch-a-Truck

Sensory-Friendly Touch-a-Truck

Come see some of your favorite vehicles from the Davenport Fire, Police, and Public Works Departments. We'll also have Kona Ice, a cement truck, a WWII Jeep, a Scott County Park Ranger vehicle, John Deere equipment, our own OWL (Outreach Wheeled Library), and more! You’ll have the opportunity to see vehicles, check out the controls, and maybe even climb inside! While you're here, decorate our sidewalks with chalk and discover the history of some of these vehicles at the Richardson-Sloane Special Collections Center table. Buy a cup from the Kona Ice truck and help support our Teen Advisory Board!

The Library understands that our large events can be difficult for some of our patrons and their families to attend and enjoy. This year, join us from 10-10:30am for a special sensory-friendly* version of our popular Touch-a-Truck event. During this portion of the event there will be no music or horns honking. If your family doesn't require sensory-friendly experience, please join us between 10:30 and 12 instead.

*A sensory-friendly event is an event that is designed to be less sensory-stimulating and overwhelming. This approach often makes it easier for individuals who have sensory sensitivities, such as those with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), who are sensitive to things like noise, colors, sounds, and smells, to participate in social activities and community or professional events. -The Autism Services, Education, Resources, and Training Collaborative (ASERT)
