Rock Island Arsenal ASC Series: POW’s Return: The Italian Quartermaster Service Company at Rock Island Arsenal

Join Kevin Braafladt, the Army Sustainment Command Historian at the Rock Island Arsenal, and the Army Sustainment Command History Office in exploring the history of the Rock Island Arsenal and American military conflicts throughout the years.

During the Second World War, over 400,000 Italian Prisoners of War were transported to the United States after the Italian surrender in September 1943.  After the surrender, the Italian “signees” were organized into Quartermaster Service Companies and the 39th and 40th were assigned to Rock Island Arsenal.
